Quality Classroom Assessments

Some of the aspects of quality classroom assessments currently in place are the posting of learning targets for some of our subjects.  I would like to become more consistent with this. I post them at least once or twice a week.  However, I have our writing goals posted and some reading goals.    I would like to immediately begin with feedback for students.  Even with 1st graders, it's important for them to understand what the goal is and how they are doing moving toward that goal.  I find that time in the classroom is a stumbling block, and understanding what the "big idea" really is that I want my student to understand and be able to do.

I love what you said about 1st graders knowing the goal! I've seen some teachers post a continuum of writing samples on the wall. The far left is the very beginning of the process, while the far right is an exemplar. It's not about getting to the far right ASAP, but knowing where you are in the process and what you need to do to move to the right.
